I recently discovered the Fail Blog, and I’m hooked. I laugh, I cry. The one below, however, struck so close to home.

Resolutions

I’ve never been one for New Year’s Resolutions. I think I may have come up with some in my youth, but they never panned out. At some point, I lost my taste for the idea. I do have some things I would like to do or see carried through in the coming year. I think “resolution” may be too strong a word, but call them what you’d like.

In no particular order:

  • Read the Bible - I’m 30 years old and have never read, in entirety, the Bible. I’ve read hundreds of books, but never the one that matters. How embarrassing! There are some schedules available online that show you how much to read each day to finish the entire book in one year’s time. I like this one, and this one has you reading both the Old and New Testament at the same time.
  • Continue Pursuing a Master’s Degree - I completed my first six hours of Graduate-level classes last semester, with A’s in both. My employer will pay for 18 more hours this semester, so I hope to take full advantage of the opportunity. I have also gone as far as I can without taking the GRE, so that is in my immediate future.
  • Teach God’s Word - Starting this Sunday, I am teaching the adult Bible class at the Delafield Church of Christ at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. This is a great opportunity to learn more myself and seek ways to tell others more about what God has to say to all of us. I am hoping for a good class that covers a lot of topics in harmony with God’s will. Part of that has to include finding ways to engage people and make them eager to come back each week. Also, I hope for more opportunities to speak of God’s plan, outside of church, and encourage those around me to seek Him.
  • Master Guitar Hero - For Christmas, I received Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II for the Playstation 2. I’ve had the games nine days as of today, and I can play 29 of the 30 songs in Medium mode in Guitar Hero. I cannot seem to play “Cowboys from Hell” by Pantera, although my wife succeeded in playing through it, so our band “won” the game yesterday. It is a lot of fun, and I’d like to be better at it. This year I want to get very good at the whole series as well as learn to play all the parts in Rock Band.
  • Support the Troops - From May to December of 2007, I was able to send 52 packages to our troops around the world. I hope to send even more this year. Last night, I packed up the first box for the New Year and hope to have it on its way at lunchtime today.
  • Learn More Sign Language - My son has Down Syndrome and receives weekly therapy. Part of that includes learning some basic sign language skills. My wife has really picked up a lot of it, but I’m not catching on as quickly as I’d like. This year I hope to expand my signing ability.
  • Become a Better Dungeon Master - I have run a weekly Dungeons & Dragons game for my friends for over 5 years. The game is still going strong, but I think my style has gone into a rut. I hope to become a more dynamic and entertaining DM in the coming year. I would like to engage the players more and get them more interested in exploring the intricacies of their characters. I really feel some of that will be accomplished when we go “back to basics” in converting to the new 4th Edition coming out in May.
  • Share More Recipes - I started posting recipes on this blog a few months ago with intention of putting more out there. When I like a certain dish, I enjoy sharing it with others. Some people are stingy with their recipe secrets, but I think that is silly. Share!

2007 Buddy Walk

This Saturday, September 15th, was the 8th annual Buddy Walk for the Down Syndrome Support Group of South Central Kentucky. The event was well attended, and you could not have asked for better weather. I want to thank all of the family and friends who contributed donations and/or came out to support the walk. Our family won 4th Place in overall fund raising, bringing in $1,138.00! The event total was approximately $16,500.00.

This year we had buttons with a variation of the Superman logo for my son, which we pinned on hats. We also had a banner with the logo and his picture, which some of our friends carried prominently around the track. It was great to see all these people who took time out of their day to spend time with my family and my son. Thank you!

Congratulations!

It was a happy day of celebration for the Plemons family because my kid brother, Nathan, got married today. We welcome Jennifer into our family and wish them a very long and happy life with one another. The ceremony went as planned in the multi-colored sunlight streaming through the church’s numerous stain glass windows. In the words of the best man, “It went off without a hitch.” Personally, I contend otherwise—they did, indeed, get hitched!

I also have to say, having a “banana split bar” at the reception may be the most awesome idea in the history of good ideas. I only ate one banana split, but it was a big sucker!

Pop Tarts - Kick Sack - Day 29

Today, my Pop Tarts kick sack arrived in the mail. According to the Special Offers Status Inquiry page, it shipped on April 6th. It arrived via USPS, so I would be curious what “shipped” really means that it took this long. Regardless, it has arrived!

Popsicles, Re-Redeux

I recently posted a few words about some popsicles from the Helados Mexcio company. For a while, I was the only person I knew who had tried them. Finally, my wife decided to try one of the strawberry bars. She’s as big a fan of them now as I. She told me the amazing thing about them is that even though they are popsicles, it is some of the best strawberry ice cream she has ever had.

This weekend, I picked up some of the mango flavor, which is very good. Our Wal-Mart only carries mango, strawberry, rum raisin, and coconut. I’m not a big coconut fan, so I’m leary of that flavor.

If you have not yet gone out and found some of these, you are only depriving yourself. I kid you not when I say they are the best popsicles ever. If I didn’t think they would rock your world, I wouldn’t keep wasting time by posting about it here. Go get some!

Pop Tarts - Kick Sack - Day 19

Well, well, according to the Special Offers Status Inquiry, my kick sack was shipped on April 6th. It should be here any day! I am not at all surprised to see the item I actually paid some money for is coming faster than the one I didn’t have to.

Awesome Popsicles

Although their web page is a bit sparse, their ice cream popsicles are some of the best I’ve had. Helados Mexico fruit bars can be found at my local Wal-Mart, and they are worth every penny. The strawberry is stunning, and if you like rum, don’t pass on the raisin and rum bars!
